Goal set: Coco Gauff aims for first place in the world ranking in 2026

The world's highest-paid female athlete in 2025, winner of 2 Grand Slam titles and currently ranked number 3 in the world, Cori Gauff arrived in Australia with a clear objective: to finish the year as the leader of the WTA Ranking.

Currently competing in the "United Cup," the American spoke at a press conference about this first week of the year and plans for the rest of the year: "Starting the year with this team competition is ideal; it's the perfect balance between fun and competitive pressure. I feel more comfortable with my shoes every day. I was able to rest and train well in Florida during the preseason," she assessed.

Finally, Gauff outlined his main goal for the year and what he intends to do to achieve it: "I want to be more consistent so I can fight for the number one spot in the WTA rankings."

Possibilities

With innate talent and numerous achievements at just 21 years old, Cori won Roland Garros brilliantly last season, with a solid campaign and a comeback victory over Aryna Sabalenka in the grand final; the clay court season also helped, with finals appearances at the Masters 1000 in Madrid and Rome.

However, after disappointments on grass, the North American fast circuit was tough in terms of expectations and results, without lifting a trophy. Nevertheless, the title against compatriot Pegula in Wuhan made the year end on a "lighter" note.

After a well-deserved rest, Cori arrives in Australia determined; and at least so far, she doesn't seem willing to give up this fight; increasingly mature and adjusting her game, it's possible to dream.
